Text description provided by the architects. The revitalization of traditional neighborhoods of the pre-and postwar asks to a modernization of the floor after careful targeted buildings, which stimulate, in part, "spilled" residential quality of this valuable new areas. The focus is on careful planning, the latest housing needs and demographic change according to the total district.
Close to the center of Bochum in district Altenbochum, Rübsamen + Partners planned not only the modernization of the original building from the 30s and 50s, but also a number of new dwellings specifically for the purposes of sustainable units. The "multi-family homes ICS" at the Immanuel Kant Street include 48 residential units and meet the building typology of a detached rental or apartment building with direct access to the back green areas. All apartments are three sides aligned and exposed. By making the parking space directly under the buildings there is no additional space for outdoor spaces lost.
The newly created residences offer a considerable degree of "more quality" over the existing row houses, and also manages a gentle compression of the existing buildings, without compromising on contemporary layout and design qualities. Old and new buildings all benefit from an appreciation of the quarter, the result of a holistic dealing with public space and private zones in terms of a livable, sustainable neighborhood.
